Although best known for their stone sculpture, the Shona Tribe of Zimbabwe has a rich artistic heritage which includes decorative pottery. All pieces are individually hand thrown and hand decorated by Sitra artisans living in Mashonaland, Zimbabwe.
Sitra was first established in 1986 by Nicholas and Sally Gambier. Sitra stoneware and ceramics have been exhibited at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe in 1989, 1991, 1992, and 1993. In 1992 they received a "Highly Commended Certificate" and in 1993 they received the "Award of Merit" for five of their unique stonework pieces in the juried Zimbabwe Heritage Exhibition.
Each piece is a work of art. Their inherent beauty may feed the beholder's soul; however, none are intended for the preparation or serving of food.
